Auckland Blue prevails at North Island Champs

Auckland Blue secured the 2017 North Island Championship played at ASB Sports Centre, Kilbirnie, Wellington. This came on the back of convincing performances throughout the tournament and the 42-27 win over Mid-Western in the play-off for first and second. All players contributed well but Mii Pepe in particular was in outstanding form. Mid-Western, which had won three of the four tournaments in the North Island regional league earlier in the year, proved a worthy contender but the organisation of Auckland ultimately proved too much. Bay of Plenty took the third-place spot.

Results: Auckland Blue 45 Bay of Plenty 32; Mid-Western 41 Auckland White 22; Auckland White 34 NZDF 31; Auckland 53 Mid Western 48; Bay of Plenty 51 Auckland White 16; Mid Western 35 NZDF 24; Bay of Plenty 51 Auckland White 16;  Auckland Blue 49 Auckland White 13; Mid Western 34 Bay of Plenty 29; Auckland Blue 29 NZDF 18.
